Thy
hallow grounds and dear old walls may they forever be, Dear
Union we still Love thee. One of my biblical heroes
is Nehemiah. Nehemiah was a servant leader. In Nehemiah
2:4 the passage reads “The king said to me, "What
is it you want?" Then I prayed to the God of heaven,
and I answered the king, "If it pleases the king and
if your servant has found favor in his sight, let him send
me to the city in Judah where my fathers are buried so that
I can rebuild it." Nehemiah went to Judah to rebuild
those hallow grounds and dear old walls. For us the task
is easier, not easy but easier, we don’t have to rebuild
the walls, because of you the walls are still standing,
but I would suggest to you that we do have to renovate and
remodel. We have to recruit and reactivate. We must raise
money to raise our influence to raise our institution. You
are all stakeholders in the success or our alma mater and
our alumni association. We will not be successful without
your support…. Just like in Nehemiah each of us has
a responsibility for remodeling and renovating a piece of
the wall.
Our
institution has survived over one hundred years, however
it is not enough to survive we must thrive, for that which
does not grow and change will eventually die. I challenge
you to join your local alumni chapter and the national alumni
association. Our focus is Recruiting Students, Reclaiming
Alumni and Raising Money for our alma mater. We achieve
our objectives while enjoying games, events, and activities
of interest to alumni, students, family and friends. To
join simply complete your membership form and send it in.
We
are always looking for new ideas and for alumni to share
their comments and concerns. I look forward to hearing from
you at vuu_alumni@yahoo.com.
