Accreditation Continued for Virginia Union University Teacher Education Program

(Richmond, VA) -- The Continuous Improvement Commission of the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) has continued the national accreditation of Virginia Union University’s Teacher Education Program, located in the Syphax School of Education, Psychology, and Interdisciplinary Studies, through the spring of 2020. The Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation is a consolidation of the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE) and the Teacher Education Accreditation Council (TEAC).

This accreditation decision indicates that Virginia Union’s teacher education program meets rigorous standards set forth by the professional education community. The standards ensure that Virginia Union’s teacher candidates demonstrate the professional knowledge and skills to help all students learn, and that they meet professional, state, and institutional standards. In addition, the standards include assessment and evaluation to improve the performance of the candidates and the program; implementation and evaluation of field experiences and clinical practice; diverse curriculum and experiences working with diverse populations; faculty qualifications, performance and development; and unit governance and resources.

Virginia Union University’s Syphax School of Education, Psychology, and Interdisciplinary Studies is one of four undergraduate schools, including the Sydney Lewis School of Business; the School of Mathematics, Science, and Technology; and the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology offers graduate degrees, including the Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Christian Education, and the Doctor of Ministry.
