Malcolm, Martin, Medgar is an enlightening, dramatic reading of the play depicting a posthumous meeting of these three Civil Rights giants in the hereafter. According to Bailey, the play “contains my perceptions on how the three heroic warriors would respond to events and individuals in today’s world. It is motivated by my deep admiration for the three Brothers, all of whom had options other than sacrificing their lives for us. One of the questions I raise in the play is whether we as a group have proven worthy of their ultimate sacrifice.”
The two-act play deals with the three characters, not only as leaders and legends, but as the fathers of thirteen children whom they left behind. As noted by Bailey, “another question raised is whether they had the right to leave thirteen young children fatherless, even for a righteous cause.”
