Virginia Union Announces Convocation Speaker
(Richmond, VA) – Rev. Dr. Levy Armwood, Jr., pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia, will present the keynote address at Virginia Union University’s Annual Fall Convocation.
Dr. Armwood is a graduate of Virginia Union, receiving the Doctor of Ministry degree in 1996 and the Master of Divinity degree in 1988. He also taught voice, humanities, and music methods for elementary school teachers at the University.
A music scholar with a Master’s of Music Education degree from Howard University, Dr. Armwood taught music in eight different schools in the Richmond Public School System. In 1968, Dr. Armwood served as Sanctuary Choir Director at Ebenezer under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. David Shannon, a former Virginia Union University president. Dr. Armwood and the Sanctuary Choir recorded an album of anthems, Negro spirituals, and gospel selections.
Convocation will be held October 5, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in the Allix B. James Chapel located in Coburn Hall. The event is free and open to the public. Founded in 1865, Virginia Union’s historic campus is located at 1500 North Lombardy Street in Richmond, Virginia.
