Virginia Union University’s Department of Languages and Literature Hosts Sankofa Film Festival

(Richmond, VA) – The Virginia Union University Department of Languages and Literature will host its first annual Sankofa Film Festival in the L. Douglas Wilder Library Media Room from February 24 -28, 2014. All screenings will begin at 6:00 p.m. and are free and open to the public.

The festival will screen and discuss five contemporary films that package and present slavery and human servitude. On Monday, the festival will open with a libations ceremony, prior to the screening, at 5:30 p.m. On Wednesday, a panel discussion will be held, following the screening, to discuss the recent slate of “slave films.” The festival will conclude on Friday evening with a reception.

The L. Douglas Wilder Library is fully accessible. Free, off-street parking is available in the lot adjacent to the library or in the Hovey Field parking lot on the North side of Lombardy Street.
