Theological Librarian 

Virginia Union University is seeking applications for a full-time Theological Librarian. The starting date will be August, 2008. The University is interested in a professional who can work well collaboratively with the Seminary faculty, the Dean and the University Librarian in developing and maintaining the theological collection in the L. Douglas Wilder Library to support the educational, research and service mission of the University. Virginia Union University is located in Richmond Virginia. It is a Historically Black College founded in 1865. The Samuel Dewitt Proctor School of Theology is the graduate school. This school equips persons for ministry within particular contexts. The Seminary offers the Master’s of Divinity and the Doctor of Ministry degrees.

Qualifications:

  • An ALA accredited MLS

  • A graduate theological degree from an accredited Seminary M. Div-or equivalent

  • Library Experience (experience in a theological library is preferred)

  • Strong service orientation and excellent interpersonal skills (Public Service Area)

  • Experience in the use of web based technology

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the development and conservation of theological, general and special collections. Works in collaboration with the Seminary’s faculty in providing the necessary materials to support the various programs in the curriculum.

  • Will work with the University Librarian to provide formal and informal instruction and research consultation for students, faculty and staff of the school of Theology and undergraduate programs.

  • Theological Librarian will provide direct reference and research services to all users of the library.

  • Develops and edits necessary informational handouts, booklets, and brochures for library instruction sessions, as well as for library services for all patrons.

  • Participates in the development, execution and assessment of theological resources and collections, programs and activities.

  • Assists in the development of theological library Web pages that facilitate seminary library use.

  • Coordinate the selection and maintaining of electronic databases subscriptions, products and their licenses to help in maintaining on –campus and off-site access.
