Student Computer Labs

A total of fifteen academic computer labs exist across campus with over 193 desktop computers available to students resulting in an 8:1 ratio of computers to full time undergraduate and graduate students. The labs are all networked IBM compatible units with Internet access. A majority of these labs are working academic labs where classes are simultaneously taught while students use technology to learn. These labs are loaded with a bundle of core software to meet general student user needs.

A typical computer lab runs Microsoft Windows 2000. One lab located in room 204 of Pickford Hall is equipped with the VideoDidact classroom teaching and management system with allows for simultaneous viewing of all 30 desktop computers from one instructor’s desktop.

Closed academic labs are loaded with course specific software and often require assistance of faculty. Good examples of these types of labs are the English lab in Room 217 of Ellison Hall and the Academic Empowerment Lab in Room 117 of Ellison Hall.

The multimedia STEM laboratory of 215 Ellison Hall is a fully automated state of the art instructional delivery operation available for multimedia lectures to STEM faculty on campus via routine registrar-mediated scheduling. This multimedia STEM laboratory also has a digital printing and student research facility adjacent to its operation available to students during open lab hours. Though fully externally funded, special request lecturing /research or other presentations requiring the use of this facility may be scheduled via the laboratory’s coordinator Dr. Phillip W. Archer.
