MEAMP OBJECTIVES
Recruit, admit and involve
sufficient numbers of students in Amp activities with the objective of
ensuring that the goal of doubling the Science, Technology, Engineering and
Math (STEM) degree production will be accomplished within 5 years.
Provide pre-college enrichment
activities to improve students’ analytical skills in mathematics and
science.
Emphasize the skills and
knowledge needed for success in STEM study and STEM careers among first
and second year students, utilizing group work and cooperative learning to
reinforce classroom learning and to provide peer mentors.
Provide a faculty and student
mentor for each AMP participant.
Provide ongoing undergraduate
research experiences, incorporating the application of academic work to real
world situations as a strong motivator to students
Foster networking and interaction
among students with similar interest (i.e., STEM), but who may be on different
campuses.
Widen the network of STEM faculty
members and professionals, particularly minorities, with whom students work,
to enhance their resolve to complete STEM degrees.
Increase the exchange of
information and ideas among AMP faculty members and administrators as a
vehicle for improving programs at the respective campuses.
AMP institutions will collect
data regarding all of their students’ participation in the Graduate Record
Examination and their matriculation into graduate programs. When these data
are known, goals will be set for graduate school matriculation that are
consistent with the challenge of doubling the number of Bachelor
degrees.
