Summer Enrichment Program

 

 

The Mid Eastern Alliance for Minority Participation (Mid Eastern AMP) is designed to increase the enrollment and graduation rate of underrepresented ethnic minorities in science, mathematics, engineering and technology related programs.  Mid Eastern AMP is a partner school tailors programs to meet the needs of their individual students. The Summer Enrichment Program, one component of Mid Eastern AMP, will provide students with an on campus living experience while introducing them to the scientific research process.  Specifically, students will meet the following goals:

 

Ø      Demonstrate the mathematical skills and proficiencies required to enroll in and successfully pass calculus in the freshman year of study.

Ø      Identify and utilize the scientific method and understand its role in the development of science.

Ø      Increase the level of reading comprehension.

 

Eligibility

 

Students who have been accepted to an Alliance institution (Virginia Union University, Elizabeth City State University, Fisk University, James Madison University, Johnson C. Smith University, St. Augustine’s College, or Virginia Polytechnic and State University) are eligible to apply.

 

Interested students must have the completed application information in the MEAMP Office by March 31, 2005

 

1.         A completed Summer Enrichment Program Application. Click here for Application form.

2.                An essay, that describes the student’s career goals, science background (including relevant courses, employment or experiences), and reasons why the Mid Eastern Alliance for Minority Participation Summer Enrichment Program would be beneficial to him/her.  The essay should be as follow: a minimum of 350 word, the text should be typed doubled spaced using a Times Roman 12 font.  The student’s name clearly typed on the upper left-hand corner on the first page.

3.                  Two recommendation forms¸ to be completed by individuals who can attest to the student’s academic ability. Click here for Recommendation Forms.

4.                  A copy of the student’s high school transcript (including Fall Semester grades).
