Governance:
The Department of Teacher Education and Interdisciplinary Studies is the administrative unit that oversees the preparation of teachers. The unit’s program is approved by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE)
Mission:
The mission of the Department of Education and Interdisciplinary Studies is to prepare candidates to become competent, highlight qualified and successful teachers.
Goals:
The goals of the Department of Teacher Education and Interdisciplinary Studies are as follows:
- Provide high quality, standards-based instruction that prepares candidates to meet the needs of diverse learners through the implementation and modeling of best practices
- Provide candidates with the content knowledge, pedagogical knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to be successful in their fields of study
- Provide clinical experiences where candidates make connections and learn to apply knowledge, skills, and dispositions defined in our conceptual framework

Outlined Program of Study: Content Area Majors: Secondary Education 6-12 Licensure Endorsements
The Department of Teacher Education and Interdisciplinary Studies offers a minor in Secondary Education (Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Business and Information Technology, History, and English). This will lead to a Bachelor of Arts Degree and teacher licensure with an endorsement for grades 6-12.
