Virginia Union University

Dear Borrowers:
As of March 1, 2009, Virginia Union University has opted to utilize the Direct Loan Program for our Parent PLUS loan borrowers effective Spring 2009.

The Department of Education (DOE) acts as a lender for the Direct Loan Program. The DOE provides funds for PLUS loans in the same amounts as the PLUS loans offered through the Federal Family Education Loan Program (FFELP). The Direct Loan Servicing site is a one-stop center for managing loans. A borrower can make online payments, view account balances and payment history, change billing options, enroll in electronic services, and more.

When a borrower consolidates loans in the Direct Consolidation Loan Program, the U.S. Department of Education pays off the original Federal education loans and originates a new loan for the total amount of the loan(s) consolidated.

You are about to apply for a Federal Direct Parent PLUS Loan through the U.S. Department of Education.

Click here to begin your loan process and print the FEDERAL DIRECT PLUS LOAN REQUEST FORM.

You will submit the Federal Direct PLUS Loan Request Form to:

VIRGINIA UNION UNIVERSITY
FINANCIAL AID OFFICE
1500 NORTH LOMBARDY STREET
RICHMOND, VA 23220
OR
Fax 804-257-5797

* The Financial Aid Office will submit your information to the Direct Loan processor where a credit check will be conducted. The Direct Loan processor will electronically submit an approval or denial to the Financial Aid Office.
* If your credit is not approved, the Direct Loan processor will notify you and give you the option of appealing the credit decision or resubmitting the application with a credit-worthy endorser. If the parent chooses not to use an endorser, the student may be eligible for the Federal Direct Unsubsidized Loan. The Financial Aid Office will notify the parent of this eligibility through a revised award notification that will be mailed home.
* If your credit is approved, the Direct Loan processor will notify the Financial Aid Office. Then the parent must complete a Master Promissory Note. The link to complete this process can be found at www.studentloans.gov.
* For more information on the PLUS loan, go to www.direct.ed.gov.
