Virginia Union Professor Awarded Fulbright Scholarship
Dr. Carleitta Paige-Anderson, assistant professor of biochemistry at Virginia Union University, has been selected as a 2013-2014 Fulbright Senior Scholar. Starting in February 2014, Dr. Paige-Anderson will teach science in Indonesia at Universitas Airlangga for a period of five months
Virginia Union Board Chairman Elected to National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame
(Richmond, VA) - Dr. W. Franklyn Richardson, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Virginia Union University, has been selected for induction into the 2013 Class of the National Black College Alumni Hall of Fame. The 28th Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will be held September 27, 2013 in Atlanta, Georgia. This is the 28th annual induction ceremony held by the organization, which provides scholarships for students attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and highlights accomplishments of alumni of HBCUs.
Virginia Union Center for the Study of the Urban Child Presents Noted Scholar of Urban Inequality
Dr. Elijah Anderson, one of the nation’s leading urban ethnographers, will present “Emmett and Trayvon: a Tale of Two Black Boys” on the campus of Virginia Union University on April 25, 2013 at 9:00 a.m. The presentation will be held in the first floor conference room of the Richmond Police Training Academy located on the Virginia Union campus at 1202 W. Graham Road.

Virginia Union University's Chamber Singers to Perform "Saga of a People: Musical Reflections" at Hanover Tavern
On Sunday, March 24, the Virginia Union University Chamber Singers will perform “Saga of a People: Musical Reflections” in the theater at Hanover Tavern. The 90-minute show, a combination of narrative and music, is the result of a first-time collaboration between Hanover Tavern Foundation and the Virginia Union University Chamber Singers.

Virginia Union Awarded $1.75 Million Science Grant
The National Science Foundation has awarded Virginia Union University’s School of Math, Science, and Technology a $1.75 million grant to increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates in STEM programs. STEM programs include students majoring in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

The Hampton Roads Alumni Chapter, formally known as the Norfolk Chapter, gave a gift of $5,000 to Virginia Union University on August 31, 2012. This is the chapter’s first gift after being rejuvenated in 2011.

On August 31, 2012, the “Tricky Tom” Harris Alumni Chapter presented VUU President Dr. Claude G. Perkins with a check in the amount of $10,410.35 raised from their annual signature event, The Outback Steakhouse Fundraiser.

Virginia Union University Junior Lela Hatcher was crowned Miss North American Essence 2012 at the national Essence competition held in Arlington, Virginia August 4, 2012.
Virginia Union Receives $1.8 Million Upward Bound Grant
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded $1,867,500 to Virginia Union University’s Upward Bound Program in order to operate the program for the next five years. Virginia Union was one of 780 programs funded nationwide from a total of 1,594 applications submitted.
Virginia Union Administrator to Head New Foundation
(Richmond, VA) - Samuel T. Rhoades, J.D., Special Assistant to the President/Title III Administrator at Virginia Union University has been named executive director of the National Association of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Title III Administrators Foundation.
VUU Contracts with KEI Architects to Design Living and Learning Center
Virginia Union University today signed a contract with the KEI (Kelso & Easter) Architecture, Landscape and Interior Design Firm, based in Richmond, VA to design the planned Robert J. Brown Living and Learning Center.
