Ettrick, VA- VUU Panthers Track team displayed pure athleticism at the CIAA Challenge Track Meet hosted by Virginia State University. The Men’s team placed 1st in 4 events. Geofray Langat won the 1500 meter run with a time of 4:24:23, Melvin Edison won the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.36, Stephen Tilghman won the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 56:27 and Marquis Davis won the shot put with a throw of 14.10 meters.
Although the Panthers didn’t finish first overall, they did manage to place 2nd with 123 points and have many other athletes who scored points for the team.
In the sprinting events, Torrian Donaldson placed 4th in the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.97 and 5th in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.74. Corey Baker placed 3rd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.06.
In the hurdles, Melvin Edison placed 3rd in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 59.43 and Charles Williams placed 8th with a time of 1:04:58. Stephen Tilghman placed 2nd in the 110 meter hurdles with a time of 15.64.
In the Field Events the throwers dominated. Marquis Davis not only placed first in the shot but he also placed 2nd in the javelin with a throw of 124’ 9 ¾’’ and 4th in the discus with a throw of 34.46 meters. Kevin Dykes placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw 13.37 meters and placed 7th in javelin with a throw of 104’04’’. Andy Williams placed 2nd in discus with a throw of 36.94 meters, 3rd in javelin with a throw of 109’10’’ and 4th in the shot put with a throw of 11.40 meters. Henry Tolliver placed 2nd in the long jump with a stunning jump of 21’8 ½”.
On the Women’s side of the scoreboard, many of the Lady Panthers made it to finals. Alisha Burnette placed 4th in the 100 meter dash and 4th and 400 meter dash. Roberta Salisbury placed 8th in the 400 meter dash. Charlene Pollard placed 4th in the High Jump. Ciara Scott placed 6th in the High Jump and Porsche Carlisle placed 4th in the Shot Put and 5th in the Discus and Javelin. Racquel Curtis placed 5th in the shot put.
The Panthers will have their next track meet on Saturday April 14th at the University of Virginia for the Lou Onesty Invitational. The first event starts at 9:00 AM.
