Michaela Vanakova Voted to CIAA Commissioner's All-Academic
Team

HAMPTON,
VA - Virginia Union University’s Michaela
Vanakova has been named to the 10th annual CIAA Commissioner’s
All-Academic Team, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic
Association announced Tuesday (June 5). Vanakova is among
the 10 student-athletes voted to the CIAA Commissioner's
All-Academic First Team.
The Olumouc, Czech Republic native has been a 2-sport
standout during her tenure at VUU. She recently earned
her Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, graduating with
a 3.63 GPA. In volleyball, Vanakova garnered First Team
All-CIAA honors in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2004, she was
named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association’s
Player of the Year. In addition, she has led the Lady
Panthers volleyball team to 3 consecutive Eastern Division
Championships (2004, 2005 & 2006). This past tennis
season, Vanakova played in the #2 singles position for
the Lady Panthers, finishing with an overall record of
8-5.

is an extraordinary group of student-athletes that have
pushed their strengths and abilities to new limits,"
said CIAA Commissioner Leon G. Kerry. "They represent
the CIAA and all that it stands for. This 10th All-Academic
Team is dedicated to future student-athletes who will
follow in their footsteps to one day become the leaders
of tomorrow."
The 2007 CIAA
Commissioner’s All-Academic Team recognizes 20 student-athletes,
10 on the First Team and 10 on the Second Team, as voted
on by the CIAA-Sports Information Directors’ Association.
The average grade point average of the First Team is a
3.830, and the average for the Second Team is a 3.739
GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
To be eligible,
a student-athlete must have completed one full academic
year at a CIAA institution, earned a minimum 3.20 overall
grade point average, and played as a starter or important
reserve in a CIAA sanctioned sport.
