Virginia Union’s Johnson Scores Game-High 17 Points Against UDC

RICHMOND, VA – 2007-08 Pre-Season All-CIAA selection Katchona Johnson led all scorers with 17 points and 5 rebounds in Lady Panthers home season-opener against the University of the District of Columbia. Virginia Union (0-1, 0-0 CIAA) eventually dropped the contest 72-52.

Freshman Yuvonna Johnson led the Lady Panthers on the boards, pulling down a game-high 11 boards. She added 8 points in the outing.

Down only 1 point at the half (30-29), the Lady Panthers struggled to do anything offensively in the second half shooting a miserable 21.7% from the field. VUU was outscored in the second half by 19 points and that feat would prove too much for the Lady Panthers to overcome.

Ashley Alexander led the Lady Firebirds with a team-high 16 points. Also scoring in double figures for UDC would be Deyshia Williams, who added 10 points in the outing.
