When Queen Zuequal Frazier took over the Virginia Union University volleyball team in 2002, the program was in disarray. The Lady Panthers had not recorded a successful season since 1998, and the program, many believed, had seen its best days.
How wrong they were.
Five seasons later, Frazier has turned the VUU volleyball program into the pride of the CIAA. The Lady Panthers won the CIAA Eastern Division title the past two seasons, and only missed the school’s first CIAA title by one game both seasons. The 23-7 record in 2004 was the best in the program’s history, and Frazier was named the 2004 CIAA Coach of the Year as well as coaching outside hitter Michaela Vanakova to the 2004 CIAA Player of the Year award.
Frazier is in her fifth year as Senior Woman Administrator and Head Volleyball Coach. She was raised in upstate New York, where she played volleyball and basketball while also running track at Fallsburg High School.
Frazier came to Virginia Union University in 1994 and earned her degree in History and Political Science in 1999.
While attending VUU, Frazier played on the women’s volleyball, basketball and softball teams. As a freshman Frazier was named to the CIAA All-Rookie Team. She was also named to the CIAA All-Conference and All-Tournament teams.
Frazier holds the record for most volleyball wins as a coach at VUU with 61 wins entering the 2006 season.
