FRESHMAN CLASS OF ’64 AND GRADUATING
CLASS OF ‘68 40th REUNION…A FAMILY AFFAIR

Dear VUU Classmates:

On a cool, rainy Sunday in September, 1964, we arrived at our destination! We were the entering Freshman Class at historic Virginia Union University! We were scholars set on getting our college degrees in order to make a decent living for ourselves and our families. Also, we wanted to make a positive change in the world. However, time and circumstances dictated our destinies. While some of us left school early to serve in the military, others among us returned to our homes and families; a few of us began families of our own, and many left Virginia Union to matriculate at other institutions of higher learning or to pursue other vocations and avocations. Of course, the vast majority of us remained to graduate in June of 1968 or during subsequent years. Wherever our destinies led us, one fact is clear: we, the Freshman Class of 1964, have a relationship, a bond that cannot be severed.

In addition, as a backdrop to our celebration, we would like to commemorate those civil rights leaders who put their lives and jobs on the line so that we may enjoy a quality life. Hence, ‘Lest We Forget’ the patriarchs who have opened doors for us such as Martin Luther King, Vernon Jordan, W.E.D. Du Bois, Wyatt T. Walker, and Samuel Proctor, to name a few. Therefore, it is time for us to commemorate our ancestors, reconnect with our classmates and celebrate the legacy we created when we chose Virginia Union University to be our alma mater and our nurturing mother.

We will be using the web portal to keep our classmates informed and offer a new tool to reconnect. If you have questions, ideas and comments as to how we can improve this media, please feel free to contact any member of the Reunion ’68 Planning Committee.
Finally, registration information for Reunion ’68 will be posted on our new website. Also, Virginia Union has a new membership travel assistance service that actually puts the “fun” in meeting your travel needs...and it will not cost you a penny.
