Leadership Development Programs

Emerging Leader

Explorer Program: Explorer is a ten week institute that meets weekly for an hour and a half designed for up and coming leaders. Leaders explore the leadership theory and its relationship to understanding themselves and the communities and organizations that which they will serve. Explorer is offered in the fall semester beginning in October and ending in December. Explorer is highly competitive as it is only open to twenty students.

Emerging Leaders Retreat: The Emerging Leaders Retreat is a two night three day retreat off campus. Retreat topics facilitated by established leaders include but not limited to communication, conflict resolution, and teamwork. ELR is offered in the spring semester during the month of March to twenty students. Preference is given to those students that successfully completed the Explorer Program.

Developing Leader

Leadership Training Academy: The Leadership Training Academy is a five day institute designed to prepare developing leaders for service during the academic school year. Training include topics to develop student leaders serving as RA’s, Orientation leaders, SGA, and Judicial leaders. The Leadership Training Academy is offered in the fall semester during the month of August and is open to forty students.

Developing Leader Retreat: The Developing Leader Retreat is a two night three day retreat designed that concludes the Leadership Training Academy. The focus of the retreat is to allow student leaders to develop trust, teamwork and congenuity. The retreat is offered in the fall semester during the month of August and is open to forty student leaders that have satisfactory completed the Leadership Training Academy.

Established Leader

Gear Up: Gear up is a day and a half institute designed to aid organizational leaders through the strategic planning process. Topics include goal setting, programming and planning, budgeting and fundraising, publicity and promotion. Students will earn a certificate of completion at the conclusion of the program. Gear Up is offered in the fall semester during the month of September and is open to twenty students.

Challenge Discovery: Challenge Discovery is a one day off campus event. The purpose of this outdoor adventure is to provide advanced leaders an opportunity to put their skills to practice as they complete various challenges. Advance leaders will utilize concepts of group development, communication, team work, critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Lead team: The lead team is a group of established leaders on campus. They have to apply for the position and if selected will serve from August until May to help plan, organize and implement the emerging leaders retreat and other leadership program initiatives.


Leadership House

The Leadership House is on-campus housing located at 2414 Brook Road. The Leadership House is a residential program, with the goal of educating its members about leadership and life, bringing students with common interests to live and learn together. The Leadership House will provide an environment to help students polish their skills as leaders, while encouraging active participation in the campus community.

As a member of the University Leadership House, you will have a shared responsibility in helping yourself and others acquire leadership skills proven to be effective in the real world through orientation, monthly meetings, community service projects, and attending leadership conferences. These elements, along with your daily interaction with each other, combine to create a strong community within the Leadership House.

All Levels

Leader Roundtable: Leader Roundtable is monthly meetings designed to aid student leaders in developing a support network of fellow student leaders. Student leaders will discuss best practices for solving leadership issues as well as celebrate student leaders successes.

Leadership Day: Leadership Day is a day when all student leaders provide volunteer service to various University departments campus-wide or the community. Leadership Day is held once per semester in the months of November and March.

Conferences: Several opportunities to attend local, regional, and national conferences are made available throughout the school year. Conference opportunities are open to all Leadership Development Program members.

Panther2Panther Seminar Series: This week long seminar series is facilitated by student leaders to their peers. This opportunity allows student leaders to share relative information gained while in attendance at conferences. The Panther2Panther Seminar Series is held in the spring semester during the month of April and is open to all students.

Leadership Awards Program: Held annually in April, student leaders are recognized for their achievements.
