In spring 2013, candidates in EDU 323/324FB (Adaptive Constructivist Teaching) were asked to prepare a short video clip showcasing their reflections on their experience in the Teacher Education program at VUU in light of a selected NCATE Standard. The assignment was a perfect exercise in critical/reflective inquiry, a foundational component of the Teacher Education Department’s conceptual framework (i.e., The Teacher as a Reflective Explorer
). Additionally, since the assignment was a group project, candidates were expected to demonstrate the collaborative skills essential to the conceptual framework’s goal of Ethic of Caring
. Further, the key concept of Competence
was demonstrated through mastery and application of the selected NCATE Standard. As they reflected, candidates watched the elements of the NCATE Standard “come alive” – a genuine constructivist
process of meaning-making.
