Career Services

Career Services offers programs and services that assist students in the areas of career development and job placement. These programs and services are designed to help students understand the relationship between academic and vocational/professional choices. The center provides career exploration field trips, career development workshops, seminars and graduate school material. Students are provided with a career library, resource center and GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and MCAT practice tests. In addition, students are provided with an up-to-date job listing (part-time, summer, career employment, and internships) and on- campus interviews with fortune 500 companies and opportunities to network with a wide range of recruiters.



Career Planning

This center offers programs and services to assist students in the areas of career development and job placement. These programs and services are designed to help the student understand the relationship between academic and vocational/professional choices, explore and develop career alternatives, and ultimately make a successful transition from college to a career.

Through the maintenance of a career library, this center provides students with information pertaining to vocational/professional occupations and graduate school opportunities. Additionally, this office provides job listings (part-time, summer, career employment, and internships) and schedules campus recruitment and interview sessions by more than two hundred (200) representatives from business, industry, school systems, government, non-profit, and educational organizations. Furthermore, students are given assistance in interview and job seeking techniques, and in resume development.

Employment Opportunities

All Virginia Union University students and alumni are eligible to interview and/or be referred for full-time opportunities.

Full-Time - these opportunities represent local, state, national and international opportunities.

Cooperative Education (Co-op)- an optional, counseling-centered program that offers students the opportunity to alternate periods of academic study with periods of work closely related to their major field of study. Co-op programs must reviewed and monitored by the Director of Career Services.

INROADS -is North America's premier organization for the professional development and preparation of talented African-American, Hispanic American and Native American students who have an interest in pursuing a career in business, engineering, computer science or liberal arts. INROADS participants are involved in leadership training under the direction of INROADS staff and senior-level corporate executive mentors. Participants also receive paid summer internships with one of over 900 corporate sponsors. www.inroadsinc.org

Part-Time- employment opportunities are posted as received in the Office of Career Services. These job openings represent local and regional opportunities. Students are responsible for making the appropriate contacts and following through with prospective employers.

Internships-offer students the opportunity to gain work experience in industry and government. These positions are offered during the fall, spring and summer, and are highly competitive. Companies that do not actively interview during the recruiting season, applications and announcements are available in the Office.
