Strategic Goals & Objectives

Goal 1. Develop conscious, competent student leadership.

Objective 1.1. Increase participation in student activities and events.
Strategies
(a) Host a Student Government Association Week by 3/2007.
(b) Collaborate on the Student Organization Fair by 9/2006.
Objective 1.2. Engage & Retain 100% of Freshman/Transfer Student Government Association representative(s) in AY 2006-07. Strategies
(a) Create Senior – Freshman Mentorship Program by 2/2007.
(b) Deliver a Dynamic Presentation during New Student Orientation by 8/2006.
Objective 1.3. Provide new avenues for exchange of student ideas and information.
Strategies
(a) Establish a Council of Presidents by 9/2006.
(b) Have one “Meet the SGA” dinner in the Dining Hall by 10/2006.

Goal 2. Improve University Relations with the Surrounding Community.

  1. Objective 2.1. Appeal to Richmond Area high school students with 3 new programs aimed at recruitment in AY 2006-07. Strategies
    (a) Conduct student leader tour of area high schools by 10/2006.
    (b) Coordinate on “Taste of VUU” program by 4/2007.
    (c) Establish a “Adopt a High School SGA” program by 10/2006

    Objective 2.2. Establish partnerships with Richmond Civic and Business leaders.
    Strategies
    (a) Organize 3 town hall style meetings with elected officials by 5/2007
    (b) Send student delegate(s) to attend Richmond City Council meetings and report back to campus by 10/2006.
    (c) “Maroon Market”-Campus Bazaar with local and student vendors to occur once a semester by 4/2007.

    Objective 2.3. Establish partnerships with area Colleges & Universities Student Government Associations.
    Strategies
    (a) Collaborate on at least two programs and initiatives by 5/2007.
    (b) Create and maintain a Central Virginia Network of SGA Presidents by 9/2006.
    (c) Invite at least three SGA’s to programs, athletic events and SGA meetings by 3/2007.
    (d) Initiate “Campus Connect” ambassador and marketing campaign by 9/2006
 
 
 
 
   

Goal 3. Emphasize Student Government’s Role as an Advocate on Behalf of Virginia Union University Students.

Objective 3.1. Open lines of communication between VUU Students and Administration.
Strategies
(a) Hold a meeting each semester between SGA and Administration by 12/2006.
(b) Host “Chat with the Administration” assemblies by 11/2006.

(c) Create Monthly SGA Newsletter by 9/2006.
Objective 3.2. Create organized avenues for students to voice concerns.
Strategies
(a) Hold monthly “Chat-N-Chew with the SGA” Forums by 10/2006.
(b) Post a SGA member Contact Board by 9/2006.
(c) Update SGA Website to increase interactivity by 1/2007.

Goal 4. Actively Engage Students in All Aspects of the University.

Objective 4.1. Increase the role of students in the Division of Academic Affairs.
Strategies
(a) Create and maintain student seat on Commencement Committee by 1/2007.
(b) Maintain student seat on Academic Advising Committee by 9/2006.
(c) Create and maintain student seat on SACS Review Committee by 11/2006.
(d) Create and maintain student seat on Academic Calendar Committee by 11/2006.

Objective 4.2. Increase student participation in the Division of Financial Affairs.
Strategies
(a) Create and maintain student seat on Tuition & Fee Committee by 12/2006.
(b) Maintain student seat on Campus Safety Committee by 9/2006.
(c) Initiate “Our Campus” campus safety campaign by 12/2006.
(d) Maintain student seat on Parking Committee by 9/2006.

Objective 4.3. Increase student participation in the Division of Student Affairs.
Strategies
(a) Maintain SGA seats on the Meal Committee by 9/2006.
(b) Increase student lead campus tours by 11/2006.
(c) Assist in the development of a Student Ambassador Program by 2/2007.
(d) Maintain student seat on all committees by 9/2006.

Goal 5. Improve School Spirit and student morale.

Objective 5.1. Improve and create organized avenues to express school spirit.
Strategies
(a) Sponsor at least four trips to revenue and non-revenue athletic games by 4/2007.
(b) Initiate “Panther Effect” school spirit campaign by 8/2006.
Objective 5.2. Improve and reallocate campus space for students’ use.
Strategies
(a) Convert the former SGA Office into a Cyber Lounge by 03/2007.
(b) Extend hours that the Henderson Center (i.e. Panthers Den) and Wilder Library are open and review snow closure policies by 3/2007.
(c) Catalogue all of the unused space on campus and use the catalogue as a basis for developing future projects by 2/2007.

Objective 5.3. Make VUU’s environment more attractive and visually inspiring.
Strategies
(a) Assist in planting flowers and create community gardens on campus by 5/2007.
(b) Research the restoration, preservation and/or renovation of the former Admission House, Community Hospital and the former Plant Services Building by 2/2007.
(c) Assist in the installation of new benches throughout campus by 12/2006.
(d) Assist in the creation of new archways or other campus impressive markers at campus entrances by 1/2007
.
