COMPUTER
USE POLICY
Responsible
Computing
Virginia
Union University makes computer facilities available to
faculty, staff, and students for their pursuit of the educational
and research goals of the University. All users of these
resources are expected to act in a responsible, ethical,
and legal manner.
Regulations
-
Computer
facilities and accounts are owned by the University.

Consideration
of and respect for the rights, property, and time of others
are central to the responsible use of computing facilities.

Computing
resources must be conserved; therefore, sending unsolicited
mass mailings, intentionally placing a program in an endless
loop, or sending chain letters is prohibited.

Statements
that reflect unfavorably on an employee or the University
are prohibited.

Confidential
information should be sent only to those with a need to
know.

Prohibited
communications include, but are not limited to, statements
that may be perceived as harassing, offensive or insulting;
threats; statements containing sexual content; personal
political or religious views; solicitations; personal
business advertisements; profanity; and discriminatory
statements dealing with age, gender, race, sexual orientation,
ethnicity, national origin, or disability.
Policy
Enforcement
Violating
these rules, or the principles upon which they are based,
constitutes an offense against Virginia Union University
and will be treated as such. Punishment for such violation
includes, but is not limited to, removal of computing privileges,
loss of employment, prosecution under federal, state, and
local laws.
Security
and Privacy
Virginia
Union University uses various methods to protect the security
of its computer and network resources and of its users’
accounts. Users, however, should be aware that the University
cannot guarantee such security and privacy. Users should
also be aware than any electronic communications and data
utilizing University-owned computer and network resources
potentially may be disclosed under various state and federal
laws or for business needs of the University.
