Virginia Union University
President Dr. Belinda C. Anderson today announced the University’s
new grant program for Richmond Public School students. Richmond
Superintendent Dr. Deborah Jewell-Sherman joined Dr. Anderson
at a press conference for the announcement of the “Brighter
Future” Initiative. “I am overwhelmed
by the magnitude of this gift,” said Dr. Jewell-Sherman.
The
“Brighter Future” Initiative provides grant
awards of up to $1400 for 2008 graduates of Richmond public
schools who meet the guidelines. It is anticipated that
100 students in the Class of 2008 will receive the awards,
which are renewable for another three years.
“I
am thrilled that we are able to help Richmond public school
students realize their dreams of a college education,”
said Dr. Anderson. “This is an historic moment in
the history of Virginia Union University.”
Specific
guidelines for the grant can be found on the University’s
web page at www.vuu.edu under
the Financial Aid link.
