The Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology of Virginia Union University will host its 56th Annual John Malcus Ellison Convocation November 7-10, 2005.  This year’s theme is Preaching and Black Religious Heritage:  Hearing the Voices of the Elders.

Featured speakers include Dr. Gardner C. Taylor, civil rights activist, renowned pulpiteer and international Baptist voice, and Dr. Gayrund S. Wilmore, retired distinguished professor of Church History, prolific scholar, and one of the fathers in the black theology movement of the civil rights era.

The Ellison Convocation, named for the noted preacher, pastor, scholar and first African American president of Virginia Union University, has a rich history and brings together alumni, students, the community and churches in a period of worship, fellowship and stimulating conversations of issues in Black Religion.
