The Commission on
Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS)
has reaffirmed the accreditation of the Samuel DeWitt
Proctor School of Theology at Virginia Union University.
The graduate school was commended for its “sustained
energetic leadership” and “attention to spiritual and
professional formation facilitated by a close mentoring
relationship with faculty, staff, and field supervisors.”
The Commission on
Accrediting is recognized by the United States Secretary of
Education for the accreditation and pre-accreditation of
freestanding theological schools, as well as schools
affiliated with larger institutions, that offer graduate
professional education for ministry and graduate study of
theology. Accreditation is governed by standards adopted by
the member schools of the Commission.
The reaffirmation
of accreditation lasts for a period of 10 years.
