About the Center for Undergraduate Research

Established in October 2014, the Center for Undergraduate Research (CUR) is designed to provide interdisciplinary research experiences that increase student competitiveness for professional careers and/or graduate studies. Undergraduate research is an inquiry or investigation conducted by an undergraduate student that makes an original intellectual or creative contribution to the discipline, encompassing scholarship and creative activity. As a high impact educational practice, undergraduate research captures student interests and creates enthusiasm for their area of study.

The Virginia Union University (VUU) CUR seeks to provide interdisciplinary research and creative inquiry experiences that increase student competitiveness for graduate studies and/or professional careers.

  1. Create opportunities for undergraduate research and creative inquiry learning experiences.
  2. Foster collaborations with community businesses, government and private industries.
  3. Integrate research into the academic curricula.
  4. Highlight the intellectual contributions of VUU undergraduate students.

Achieving the Mission and Goals

The CUR will employ a three-pronged approach, as indicated in the diagram below, to engage undergraduate students in research projects, thereby increasing the scholarly contributions of the university.
