Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education

Dr. Kimberly Gaiters is the Dean of the Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education at Virginia Union University. She is an experienced educator who has helped to shape debates over issues related to higher education, community development, and public policies. 

Mission 

The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education produces professional educators who are dedicated to the advancement of diverse learners, communities, and a global society. Its mission is to:

  • Produce professional educators who are committed to academic excellence;

  • Empower candidates with dispositions to positively impact the development of diverse learners; and,

  • Develop life-long learners who embrace culturally-responsive educational practices.

To accomplish this mission, the Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education offers a broad range of opportunities that advance academic rigor, relevant learning experiences, personal and professional relationships, and physical and virtual resources.

Accreditation Agencies:

The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education is accredited by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP). 

National and State Licensing Examinations:

The Evelyn Reid Syphax School of Education requires licensing examinations to include: Reading for Virginia Educators (RVE), the Virginia Commonwealth Literacy Assessment (VCLA), and Praxis II. Pass rates for completers are captured in the table below:
