Division of Student Development & University College

The Division of Student Affairs & University College (UC) provides all matriculating students excellent foundations for life through a comprehensive and sustained academic experience. The UC leads all efforts in welcoming newly matriculating students into the university community. Through our Circle of Support academic advising/coaching model, we place all students and the core of our efforts. We require that students develop personalized education plans, while providing them the scaffolding necessary to facilitate their matriculation. The Early Alert program is designed to identify students who may need inventions to improve their academic performance or have deviated from their plans. We coordinate an intentional response to address student needs and concerns in collaboration with all university divisions. The Office of Inclusive Learning serves all students eligible for assistance under Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, and the American with Disabilities Act. As an unit within the Division of Academic Affairs, the UC coordinates curriculum innovation efforts to enhance the general education curriculum core and university honor’s program in partnership with all academic schools and departments. In the UC’s Learning Center, we offer all students support via peer-tutoring, supplemental instruction programs, access to computer labs, writing assistance, as well as study hall space. Our collective efforts are designed to offer holistic academic support services and programming that result in increased student success. We make lucid the connection and direction of the academic curriculum and experiential learning initiatives that increase student competitiveness for opportunities following graduation, as well as highlight the extent to which Virginia Union University is uniquely positioned to develop lifelong leaders and contributors to the world.

Health Services

The Division of Student Affairs provides counseling and health services to students through a health and wellness fee or the use of their private insurance. Health Services goal is to enhance services that support personal health, safety, and wellness of its students. The Office of Counseling Services provides a range of professional counseling, preventative and psycho-educational services for students. Health Services provides effective, accessible and culturally responsive patient care, education and advocacy that promote health and quality of life for all residents in Metropolitan Richmond.

Workforce Development

The Office of Workforce Development & Training enhances career pathways and access to opportunities (internships) that will lead to gainful employment and reduction/elimination of student debt.

Our goal is to have 100% of the student body engaged in an internship that will develop the required skills to prepare students to become gainfully employed. Our mission is to provide a comprehensive, high-quality, liberal arts education, in a student-centered environment.

As you continue to support our students, our staff will work to ensure the quality of the program that will reduce and assist with deleting individual financial debts.

The Process:

  • The student requests and invoice from Student Accounts. Student accounts notifies the certifying official.

  • The student submits the request for payment through the goarmy site.

  • Once approved the certifying official will confirm classes/hours/cost. Once everything has been verified they will let student accounts know it is ok to submit the invoice.

  • Once the invoice is approved student accounts will provide Business Affairs with the invoice and credit card information to process the payment.
