The Federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act has made funding available to colleges and universities to assist eligible students who have been impacted by COVID-19. Virginia Union University has received $2.2 million dollars from the CARES Act. Fifty percent, $1,125,839, will be used for emergency financial aid relief to benefit students.
Virginia Union University has a Department of Education certification of agreement to distribute these funds. Students first received notice of CARES Act funding in a campus-wide email on April 20, 2020. Click here to read.
To receive emergency aid, you must:
Be enrolled as a full-time degree-seeking student at Virginia Union University during the Spring 2020 Semester (12+ credits-undergrad; 9+ credits - grad).
Title IV eligible as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Respond and submit the student survey that was sent on April 20 by email and posted on the VUU Coronavirus 2020 webpage. Click here for the survey.
Virginia Union University will award support to all undergraduate and graduate students who were enrolled in Spring 2020. Here is a breakdown of what students can expect:
Emergency Aid Relief - 1077 eligible students will receive stimulus funds to help with food insecurity or financial hardships. This amounts to $818 per eligible student. Notification will be sent by email beginning May 15.
