Virginia Union University celebrated signing day in a major way Wednesday, February 5, 2020. Traditionally, National Signing Day is the first opportunity a high school student-athlete has to publically announce his/her intentions on what university he/she will continue playing their playing career.
"National Signing Day is always a huge day in college football," said Parker. "Our staff did an excellent job of evaluating, recruiting and signing a very high quality 2020 class. We met and exceeded all of our recruiting goals during this cycle. We were able to do an exceptional job in the State of Virginia with 13 of the 20 signees coming from the state. We were also able to grab some talent from other states, with three coming from Maryland, two coming from D.C., one coming from North Carolina and one coming from Georgia. We have forged some great relationships with the new student-athletes and their families and we can't wait to get them on campus for the upcoming season."
This year’s signing day extravaganza was hosted by Stumps Pig and Pint Restaurant located at 119 E. Leigh Street. Stumps provided venue space for VUU fans, faculty, staff and students to celebrate those students-athletes who chose to bring their athletic ability to Virginia Union.
Annually, the signing day is slated for the first Wednesday in February with VUUs coaching staff finally getting to see the fruit of their recruiting labors.
Entering his 3rd season as Head Coach, Dr. Alvin Parker, and staff were able to receive commitments from one of the best signing day classes VUU football has ever seen. Securing 20 of the top 22 student-athletes the football staff deeded to be priority players.
Of Coach Parkers many philosophies, he likes to keeps his team grounded in home grown talent with 13 of his 20 signings coming from student-athletes in the Commonwealth.
