A tip-in with 0.8 seconds left to play by Bowie State University’s Saiquan Jamison gave the Bulldogs a 64-62 win over Virginia Union University on Wednesday, February 13, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
VUU had tied the game at 62-62 on a free throw by Will Jenkins with 6.7 seconds left, but Bowie State was able to put back a missed shot to seal the win.
VUU’s Terrell Leach led all scorers with 22 points while Jenkins recorded a double-double with 19 points and 13 rebounds.
“I felt we came out a little flat, but we picked it up a little bit defensively,” said VUU Head Coach Jay Butler. “It was a hard-fought game tonight . Bowie State did a good job defensively and we didn’t shoot the ball well, going 18-for-56 from the field. We shot 32%, but I thought the kids fought the entire game and gave us an opportunity to win.”
The loss dropped Virginia Union to 15-10 overall and 10-4 in the CIAA. Bowie State is now 15-10 overall and 11-3 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union now travels to Lincoln University, Pa., to face Lincoln University of Pennsylvania at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 16.
