Virginia Union University's women's bowling team finished third in the CIAA Championships, held on March 23-24 in Virginia Beach, Va.
The third place finish is the highest ever finish for a VUU bowling team.
"What a great season for the VUU women's bowling team," said VUU Head Bowling Coach James Washington. "The third place finish is the highest ever accomplished by the team. I am so proud of this team. We fought through a lot of adversity this season and to go as far as we did says how committed the young ladies were to the process and to each other. With four returning players I hope this season is something we can build on to bring VUU its first bowling championship next season."
Virginia Union lost to Fayetteville State University 920-699 (4 games to 1) on the final day of competition on Sunday, March 24.
The Lady Panthers had defeated Shaw University 826-688 (4 games to 2) and Fayetteville State 747-716 (4 games to 1) on Saturday, March 23. VUU also lost to Bowie State University 892-711 (4 games to 1) on the first day of competition.
