Bowling Wins CIAA Top GPA Award

March 26, 2019

The Virginia Union University women's bowling team has won the award for having the highest grade point average of any CIAA bowling team, the CIAA announced prior to the start of the 2019 Bowling Championships on Friday, March 22, in Newport News, Va.

This is the third straight year that the Lady Panthers have won the top GPA Award, known as the Dr. Freddie Vaughns Highest Team Academic Award.

Collectively, the team recorded a 3.58 grade point average, earning the award for a third consecutive year.

"What a great accomplishment for the bowling team to win the GPA award for third consecutive year," said VUU Head Bowling Coach James Washington.  "It says alot about the commitment of the young ladies on and off the lanes. I am very proud of the team and the season we have put together."

VUU's Amaree Durfee was also named to the All-CIAA Bowling Team.  Durfee followed up with a strong sophomore campaign after finishing last season as the league's top rookie.
