CIAA Announces 2019 Regular Season Bowling Honors

March 26, 2019

CHARLOTTE, NC - The Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) along with its Bowling Coaches Association announce the 2019 CIAA Bowling All-Conference team and superlatives.

The All-CIAA bowling team is highlighted by 2019 CIAA Player of the Year Ariel Haith from Virginia State University. A senior from Waukegan, IL, Haith participated in 40 CIAA bowling contests this year for a total pin count of 7,419, earning the highest average score within the conference at 185.48 pins per match. Her total pin count was also the highest among student-athletes in CIAA bowling events. Haith, an interdisciplinary studies major, is an All-CIAA selection for the third consecutive year.

Freshman Cayla Snowden of Bowie State University also earned All-CIAA honors on her way to being named 2019 CIAA Rookie of the Year. In 39 CIAA bowling contests, she recorded the fourth best average in the conference at 177.97 pins per game and 6,941 pins dropped on the season, leading all CIAA freshmen in both categories during conference contests.

Joining Haith and Snowden on the 2019 All-CIAA bowling team is Diamond Carter (BSU), Amaree Durfee (VUU), Brittany Worthy (FSU), Brianna Williams (VSU), Savannah Starling (FSU), Angel Pope (FSU), Gabriela Mills (VSU), and Cheyenne Stahnke (FSU). Carter is a member of the All-CIAA team for the fourth straight year while Starling, last year's CIAA Player of the Year, and her teammate Worthy make the team for a third consecutive season. VSU's Williams makes the team for a second straight year along with VUU's Durfee, who followed up with a strong sophomore campaign after finishing last season as the league's top rookie. Fayetteville State leads the way with four All-CIAA selections.

Fayetteville State Head Coach Bobby Henderson led his Lady Broncos to a perfect 51-0 CIAA record (53-11 overall) during the 2018-19 season to earn 2019 CIAA Coach of the Year. Henderson and his team won FSU's 18th CIAA Southern Division title this season.

Bowie State University claims the CIAA Northern Division title with a 43-7 conference record (48-26 overall).

The Lady Panthers of Virginia Union University secured the 2019 Dr. Freddie Vaughns Highest Team Academic Award. Collectively, the team recorded a 3.58 grade point average, earning the award for a second consecutive year.
