Virginia Union University’s Zsakee Crocker collected three wins at the CIAA Tennis Round-Up, held on March 23-24 in Charlotte, N.C.
Crocker got a doubles and a singles win against Livingstone College and then recorded a singles win against Johnson C. Smith University.
As a team, VUU beat Livingstone 7-0 but lost to Johnson C. Smith 6-1 and Winston-Salem State 4-0 to finish 1-2 for the Round-Up.
“I was pleased how hard the team played and competed over the weekend,” said Head VUU Tennis Coach Guy Walton. “This past weekend matches were a learning and growing experience. The younger players stepped up and got their first singles wins. This was a positive step as we moved forward.”
Crocker won at #5 singles 3-6, 6-3, 9-6, against Alisa Stevenson of JCSU and beat Jannyse Bell of Livingstone 6-0, 6-2.
She and her doubles partner Lynda Kaneza won at #3 doubles 6-0 against Bell and Serenia Murdaugh of Livingstone.
Virginia Union now travels to Petersburg, Va., to face Virginia State University at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 28.
