Dr. Allia L. Carter Appointed to Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for Virginia Union University

(RICHMOND, Virginia) - Virginia Union University announces the appointment of Dr. Allia L. Carter to the role of Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer (EVP/COO), effective immediately.

As EVP/COO, she will lead various administrative functions including Human Resources and Talent Management, Internal Auditor, Intercollegiate Athletics, Enrollment Management and Student Affairs, Corporate and External Relations, Business Affairs, Business Intelligence and Information Technology, and Campus Police.

“For the past 22 years, Dr. Carter has worked diligently to improve educational programs and services that lead to student access, affordability, retention, and completion,” said Dr. Hakim Lucas, president and CEO of Virginia Union University. “Dr. Carter has proven to be a thoughtful, innovative, caring and ethically transcendent servant leader with the skill, competence and emotional intelligence needed to oversee the administrative functions of the University. “

Dr. Carter came to VUU in October 2017, serving as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. Under her leadership, EMSA launched an innovative "Quest for the Best" recruitment initiative where accepted students were introduced to the campus through a strategic social media campaign. She also developed a new process for current students to register for classes.

Dr. Carter earned a Bachelor's in Biology from Siena Heights College, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration and Higher Education from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Higher Education Administration with a concentration in Educational Administration and Supervision from Bowling Green State University; along with a number of professional certifications.
