There were 17 teams participating in this year’s two day event. This year’s tournament was hosted by Roanoke College and was contested at The Blacksburg Country Club in Blacksburg, Va. Blacksburg Country Club is a 6,619 yards Par 72. The Club is known for its peaceful atmosphere and scenic view of the mountains. The North Fork of the Roanoke River meanders through the course, coming into play on several holes. Virginia Union University finished tied for 5th place with a team score of 596 (296/300. Team scoring was led by First-time Transfer Hayden Garcia tied for 5th with a two score of 144 (71/73), followed by Sophomore Travon Willis tied for 8th with a two-day score of 145 (74/71). All tied for 49th were Sophomore -Alkin Barkley a score of 157 (82/75), Ahmad Reedus, First-time Transfer 157 (76/81), and Freshman Zaccheus Spann 157 (75/82). In a field of 93 players, Garcia and Willis finished in the top 10.
“The team is beginning to respond very well as a young team," said Head VUU Golf Coach E. Lee Coble. "Golf is a process and we are learning and gaining experience with each event we play in. I continue to be encouraged."
