The honors continue to roll in for Virginia Union University’s Jefferson Souza. Less than a week after being named the top kicker in Division II by The College Football Network, the senior kicker for the Panthers has been named as a First Team All-American by D2FOOTBALL.COM.

The honors continue to roll in for Virginia Union University’s Jefferson Souza. Less than a week after being named the top kicker in Division II by The College Football Network, the senior kicker for the Panthers has been named as a First Team All-American by D2FOOTBALL.COM. Souza, a senior kicker from Deerfield Beach, Fla., who is majoring in Business Management with a cumulative grade point average of 3.23, led the Panthers in scoring in 2019 with 73 points. He hit 15 of 16 field goal attempts and connected of 28 of 29 extra points in 2019. His longest field goal was a 49-yard kick against Elizabeth City State University. Souza also collected 1,270 yards on 36 punts in 2019 for an average of 35.3 yards per punt. Souza unloaded a 59-yard punt against Lenoir-Rhyne that season. “Jefferson deserves every accolade that he is receiving. He is not only a talent but a great person,” said VUU Associate Athletic Director and Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. “He will succeed at anything in life he wishes to accomplish. He is the true definition of student-athlete.” “Jefferson Souza has proven to be a top caliber kicker in Division II,” said VUU Specialist Coach Anthony Prevost. “As a dual-kicker I believe he will be able to compete with the best at the professional level because of his dedication to his craft and being an athlete!” VUU opens the 2021 season when the Panthers meet the Pirates of Hampton University at 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 4, in Hampton, Va.
