Virginia Union University's Will Jenkins Scored 23 points as VUU defeated Johnson C. Smith 79-71 in the CIAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Thursday, February 28, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.
Jenkins also grabbed eight rebounds and dished out three assists in the win.
"I lean on Will Jenkins," said VUU Head Coach Jay Butler. "He was pivotal in our championship run from last year, so we expect Will to step up and make plays, and he did tonight. He played like a leader and played like a kid who wants to win another CIAA championship."
VUU's Terrell Leach scored 20 points while teammate Jordan Peebles added 14 points.
Virginia Union's Demarius Pitts, who was the CIAA Rookie of the Year, recorded his first collegiate double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

VUU is now 19-10 on the season while Johnson C. Smith finishes 2018-19 with a 10-18 record.
Virginia Union will now play Shaw University at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, March 1, in the CIAA Tournament Semi-Finals at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.
