Virginia Union University's Will Jenkins has been named the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year, the CIAA announced on Monday, February 25, in Charlotte, N.C.
Jenkins, a 6-7 junior forward from Baltimore, Md., averaged 15.1 points and 8.5 rebounds for the Panthers this past season.
"This is shocking, I really didn't expect this at all," said Jenkins. "I'm just thankful to my God for everything that we go through."
Jenkins becomes the first VUU men's basketball player to win the CIAA Defensive Player of the Year Award since Brad Byerson in 2008.
Virginia Union Opens play in the 2019 CIAA Tournament at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, at the Spectrum Center in Charlotte, N.C.
