Virginia Union University's Shareka McNeill tied her career high with 36 points as the Lady Panthers downed Lincoln University of Pennsylvania 81-56 on Saturday, February 16, in Lincoln University, Pa.
McNeill hit a season-high seven three-pointers as VUU notched its 22nd win of the season.
"It was a great game," said VUU Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert. "We know that Lincoln is a little depleted because they're struggling with some injuries right now, but they're really playing really tough basketball. They just came off a win over Elizabeth City State University, so we know they're very capable of putting up points. Their point guard and their off guard are two super-talented guards who helped with scoring quite well, but our defense really did the job tonight."
VUU held the Lions to 6-of-30 field goal shooting in the first half as the Lady Panthers surged to a 37-18 halftime lead. Lincoln scored just eight points in the second quarter.
Virginia Union's Bianca Lockamy scored 16 points while Rejoice Spivey added 12 points. VUU's Jasmine Carter led the Lady Panthers with 14 rebounds.
The win raised VUU's record to 22-2 overall and 13-2 in the CIAA. The Lady Panthers are now 7-1 in the Northern Division of the CIAA and can clinch their fourth straight Northern Division championship with one more win.
Lincoln fell to 14-12 overall and 8-7 in CIAA play.
Virginia Union wraps up the 2018-19 home season when it faces Elizabeth City State at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 20, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
