Virginia Union University placed five players in double-figures as the Lady Panthers defeated Elizabeth City State University 94-51 on Wednesday, February 20, at Barco-Stevens Hall in Richmond, Va.
The win gave VUU its fourth consecutive CIAA Northern Division crown. The Lady Panthers have an 8-1 divisional record, with second-place Bowie State University two games behind at 6-3 with one game left to play.
"I think this was one of our best games so far this semester," VUU Head Coach AnnMarie Gilbert said. "Our seniors stepped up really big, with Bria McKinney scoring 16 and Nicole Floyd scoring 20. Rejoice Spivey had 10 points and 15 assists, so I couldn't be more happy."
Virginia Union's Shareka McNeill led the Lady Panthers with a team-high 21 points while teammate Bianca Lockamy added 17 points.
Floyd also led the Lady Panthers with nine rebounds.
The win raised VUU's record to 23-2 overall and 14-2 in CIAA play. Elizabeth City State fell to 13-14 overall and 5-11 in the CIAA.
Virginia Union wraps up the 2018-19 regular season when it travels to Murfreesboro, N.C., to face Chowan University at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 23.
VUU will begin play in the 2019 CIAA Tournament at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C., against the winner of the fourth seed in the south and the fifth seed in the north.
