Hurricane Dorian: September 5, 2019 (5:20 p.m.)
Virginia Union University is monitoring the latest forecast for Hurricane Dorian, a Category 2 storm located off the North and South Carolina Coasts. The National Weather Service has predicted that the Richmond area will experience rain and wind gusts of up to 55 mph beginning Thursday evening into mid-day Friday. The VUU Emergency Management Team and Executive Leaders have made appropriate plans if these conditions have an impact on our campus. Your safety is of utmost importance and we will communicate all updates with you by email and social media. Emergency information and changes to VUU’s operating status will be sent to you through e2 campus alert, email, vuu.edu, and social media. At this time, the university will remain open and all classes will be held as scheduled.
Emergency Alert System:

Power Loss/Flooding:
If there is a loss of power or if flooding becomes an issue, students will be moved to areas with generator power. This includes students residing at the Student Leadership house. Students will be housed in the Claude G. Perkins Living and Learning Center and the L. Douglas Wilder Library. The Dining Hall will also be open and available for students each day from 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. The facilities department is currently working to make sure that all drains and window wells are clear to prevent ponding. Sandbags and sealing are being placed at entrances prone to flooding. The facilities department will be on campus throughout the storm to handle any excessive water cleanup, provide fans, water, or assistance in moving personal items to higher areas in the residence halls. Generator Power:
VUU has several generator stations in the lobby of each residence hall where students can recharge electronic devices in the event of power loss.
