Virginia Union University's Mya Lowe scattered 13 hits over seven innings of work to give VUU a split in softball action on Sunday, March 31, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
Lowe struck out four as the Panthers defeated the Bulldogs 6-4 in the second game.
"It felt good to get a complete game as a freshman, but the hits humbled me for the next game" said Lowe. "I was throwing a drop-ball, a screwball, a change-up and my regular fastball."
VUU's Yazmine Lewis drove in two runs to lead the Panther offense, driving in Summer Moroch with a single in the first inning and then driving in Moroch on a double in the fifth.
In the first game, Lewis drove in two more runs, scoring Brenda Reninga with a single in the first inning and then driving in Daionna Wright with a single in the seventh inning.
Moroch started the first game and struck out four over seven innings, giving her 14 strikeouts in two games this weekend.
Despite the heroics, Bowie State defeated VUU 7-3 in the first game.
Virginia Union now travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, April 6.
