Virginia Union University's Shareka McNeill has been named the CIAA Women's Basketball Player of the Year, the CIAA announced on Monday, February 25, in Charlotte, N.C.
McNeill, a 5-6 sophomore guard from Charlotte, N.C., was the fourth straight VUU player to win the award. Kiana Johnson, Lady Walker and Alexis Johnson won the award the previous three years.
McNeill led the CIAA in scoring with an average of 23.1 points per game. She scored 600 points this past season and is just 13 points away from scoring her 1,000th career point.
"It's an honor to get Player of the Year," McNeill said. "I worked hard for it. The team's going to do great in the CIAA as long as we play hard like we did during the season."
VUU plays the winner of the Livingstone College-Virginia State game at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, February 27, at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C.
