The Virginia Union University men's track and field program opened their 2019 outdoor season in late March with two meets, at the Fred Hardy Invitational at University of Richmond, and the Ram Invite at VCU.
On Saturday, March 30, at Fred Hardy freshman Micah Kipruto notched his second school record of the year, this time in the 5,000-meter run with a performance of 15:11. His time stands #1 in the CIAA by almost a minute. Also running a CIAA #1 performance Saturday was freshman Enos Rotich in the 1500, with a time of 4:08.25. Earning a lifetime best in the 1500 meter was junior Charles Whitehead-Tillery, with a 5 second PR of 4:20 to rank 4th in the conference. Tillery also ran a lifetime best in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:00.33.
Additionally, opening their seasons with quick times was freshman John Porter with a time of 49.71, and freshman Zorion Wiley with a time of 11.04 and 22.44 in the 100 and 200 respectively. Sophomore Josh Sanders also notched a lifetime best of 11.77 in the 100-meter dash.
The Panthers return to the track on April 5-6 at the Battleground Relays, hosted by the University of Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, Va.
