Dear Panther Community,
It is with incredible sadness that I write to let you know that our Virginia Union community experienced a great loss overnight.
During a celebration at Henderson, junior Darve’ll Amir Darlington collapsed and required emergency care. An emergency crew transported Darve’ll to the VCU Hospital, where he transitioned to eternal life.
Today is a day of mourning for our community. We have grief counselors on campus to assist anyone who needs support, and our campus ministry team is available as well. The Allix B. James Chapel will be open all day as needed. At 5pm, we will gather in the chapel as a university community, where we will mourn and celebrate this student’s life.
This loss is especially sad as we begin our Homecoming week, a time of celebration and fellowship for our university community. As our VUU family gathers throughout this week, may we all say a word of prayer for Darve’ll, his family, and all those who love him. As we mourn this loss, let us support one another, lift each other up, and give thanks for the gifts that God has given us.
