Virginia Union University softball players Summer Moroch and Audrenik Howard have been named the Food Lion CIAA Pitcher of the Week and the Food Lion CIAA Offensive Player of the Week, the CIAA announced on Monday, April 1.
Moroch, a freshman from Manassas, Va., Moroch struck out 10 batters in 5 innings with just one hit and one walk this past week to finish with a 1-0 record. She helped VUU defeat conference foe Lincoln (PA) 22-0 on Saturday, March 30 and then struck out four more batters against Bowie State University on Sunday.
Howard, a sophomore from Oak Harbor, Wash., went 4-for-6 from the plate to finish with a .750 batting average and an impressive 2.500 slugging percentage. The sophomore finished with 3 home runs and 6 runs scored along with seven RBI and a stolen base, helping the Lady Panthers to a 2-0 record.
Virginia Union travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., to face Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, April 6, and will then return to Richmond, Va., to face Chowan University on Sunday, April 7.
