Moroch’s Gem Lifts VUU to Split With ECSU

April 08, 2019

Virginia Union University's Summer Moroch tossed a two-hit shutout to give VUU a split with Elizabeth City State University on Saturday, April 6, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.

Moroch did not allow a hit after the third inning and at one point retired seven straight Viking batters en route to the 5-0 win.

Moroch also struck out five and walked none in the win.

Virginia Union got all the runs it would need when Brenda Reninga led off the game with a single through the left side of the infield.  After Reninga stole second, Daionna Wright doubled to center field, scoring Reginga.

Wright scored on a sacrifice fly by Audrenik Howard.

VUU added two more runs in the fourth inning on a two-run single by Reninga and then another run in the fifth when Wright drove in Diamond Jones.

In the first game, Reninga and Wright had two more hits apiece but VUU lost the game 6-3.

The split gives VUU an 8-15 record overall and 7-4 in the CIAA.  Elizabeth City State fell to 7-19 overall and 5-7 in the CIAA.

Virginia Union now hosts Chowan University in a double-header at 12:00 and 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 7, at the VUU Softball Field in Richmond, Va.
