Virginia Union University’s Tabyus Taylor and Sterling Hammond have been named to the 2018 BoxToRow All-American Team, it was announced on Tuesday, December 11.
“We want to thank BoxToRow for honoring two of our players,” said VUU Head Football Coach Dr. Alvin Parker. “To be named an All-American is a very big deal and deserves much praise. Both Tabyus and Sterling symbolize what it means to be a student-athlete here at Virginia Union. They both will continue to rack up these post-season awards because of their on-field success this past season”
Taylor, a sophomore running back from Hopewell, Va., became only the second VUU running back to rush for more than 20 touchdowns in a single season. Taylor finished the season ranked eighth in the nation in rushing with 1,546 yards on 245 carries. He was named First-Team All-CIAA this season.
Taylor is a finalist along with Hayden Bauserman of Shenandoah University and Yonis Blanco of Randolph-Macon College.
Hammond, a junior defensive back from Caret, Va., had 55 tackles this past season. He also had four interceptions and recovered four fumbles, scoring touchdowns on two occasions.
